Abstract

Abstract

What happens between word and image? Utterance and picture? This paper aims to investigate how the film Nova Dubai (2014), by Gustavo Vinagre, and the anthology O poeta pornosiano (2011), by Glauco Mattoso, disorganize words and images by rupturing the representation through pornography. Thus, inspired by the cartographic method proposed by Félix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze, this research performs a mapping between literature and cinema by following different levels (from expressive to representational) in order to follow the desiring flow that crosses both works. In this sense, we argue that the mobilization of an abject desire, which is summoned by a queer pornography in both Vinagre's and Mattoso's works, seeks to reach the reverse of word and image. As we pursue this desirous flux, these works open themselves to a different relationship between subject and world, rejecting any prospect of a utopian future by assuming an ethical-aesthetic-political making that moves through this abject desire, sign of a queer negativity. Finally, what appears is not the configuration of a fixed and well-defined identity of the sexual act or of its participants, but the proliferation of dissident and alternative sexualities to the heteronormative rubric.
