Abstract

Samuel Goldman earned his PhD in Political Science from Harvard. His dissertation, “The Shadow of God: Strauss, Jacobi and Theologico-Political Problem”, dealt with Leo Strauss’s argument that secular regimes lack “normative and foundational authority” and thus easily degenerate into anarchy and despotism. Goldman’s writings on politics, religion, philosophy, education and culture have appeared in The New Criterion, The Wall Street Journal and First Things. He is currently senior collaborator of the renowned The American Conservative. He is also assistant professor at the department of Political Science at George Washington University.
