This article approximates and interweaves the theses defended by Christoph Türcke (2002; 2012) about addiction to digital images and the establishment of a culture of attention deficit in the Excited Society, in which part of people becomes dependent on large loads of imagery stimuli or medication, such as methylphenidate, to “awaken” senses increasingly saturated. The argument is that the theses, presented at different moments by the German philosopher, complement each other and start from a common denominator: the advance of the cultural industry through online social networks and smartphones. Aiming to discuss the consequence of this reality for teacher education, this analysis dialogues with the concept of Halbbildung in Theodor W. Adorno and reviews different studies on addiction to smartphones and methylphenidate among university students. In the end, it is defended the relevance of problematizing this attention deficit (which appears in the plots of the culture industry) as well as a deficit of imagination.
