Abstract

In this paper, we present an excerpt of research that aimed to understand discourses of students and teachers of basic education regarding the object of studies of the visual arts, analyzing their value judgments about this field of knowledge. We observe the approximations and distances in the students speeches in relation to the speeches of these teachers, looking for concrete possibilities to incorporate the contributions brought by the students into the school curriculum and to seeking to investigate ways to increase the teacher education for the visual arts. In the present text, we briefly return to some philosophical principles of the Perelman's New Rhetoric theory that have aroused our questions in the field of education and present some assumptions that guide our view and our analyses. Then, we will present details of the delimitation of this study, as well as some methodological issues faced and the way they were addressed. Finally, taking into account the synthesis necessary for the space of an article, we will highlight the theses of the students and teachers surveyed in relation to one of the images used in the scope of this study to arrive at our conclusions to date.
