Abstract

The article in question aims to reflect on the educational alternatives adopted by municipal education system in Rio de Janeiro within the pandemic period started in March 2020. For this purpose, we begin with a brief contextualization at national level so its possible to comprehend the lack of standarization in educational strategies among states, municipalities and federal schools, which resulted in the rupture of academic calendars in institutions spread all over the country. By highlighting the options made by municipal department of education of Rio de Janeiro, the analysis was divided into two moments, first considering the educational setting in 2020 and then the consequences of pedagogic decisions made for the coming year, when municipal education network opted for the “continuum” of its school syllabus (what means to say that students would have the subjects of two scholar years in a row split into two semesters). So, through research in municipal laws and educational guidelines set by authorities, this article aims to take a critical look at the adopetd alternatives in Rio de Janeiro for the maintenance of online classes and blended learning during the worst period of COVID-19 pandemic, considering strengths and weaknesses for the sucess of strategies.
