The Use of popularization science texts in health education

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the characteristics of the use
of the Popularization of Science Texts to approach health issues in the school context. To do this, a survey was carried out in these bibliographic fonts: the national scientific journals of the science education area; annals of the National Meeting of
Research in Science Education; and annals of the National Meeting of Biology Teaching. The results revealed that the teaching activities described in these works
were mainly applied in the Sciences and Biology subjects. Among the topics about
health, genetics was the most approached, followed by nutrition and dengue. The
type of Popularization of Science Text most adopted in these proposals was the
popularization of science magazines. Learning new scientific concepts and
establishing relationships between the content addressed and their daily life were the
most cited didactic objectives in the activities. Among the various didactic strategies
used, it was observed predominance in the collective reading and discussion in the
classroom. The main didactic contributions of the activities were the increase of
participation and interest of the students in the classes and the ability to articulate
scientific content with their daily life.
