Abstract

The popular science magazines are important resource to bring the
population closer to scientific themes. Thus, in relation to reptiles, this becomes
essential because this group have an important role in ecological balance despite they
arouse little popular interest. This research aims to investigate how the reptiles theme
was approached by the Superinteressante magazine between January of 2009 to April
of 2019. Thirty-four texts were found and analyzed according two categories:
‘General characteristics of the reports’ and ‘Focus about the theme of reptiles’. The
results indicated the predominance of articles produced by the journal's editors,
which occupied about one page. In addition, we observed a concentration of text
about this theme in 2009. In relation of the focus, the magazine brings a variety of
themes related of scientific studies, curiosities and negative highlights about reptiles.
This article brings important contributions since it problematizes the approach of this
animals in a popular science magazine of great circulation.
