The 21st century pandemic: an overview of Brazil

Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, the health authorities of the different countries have been monitoring its evolution, recording the data through their health systems. Additionally, Covid-19 has brought various consequences on the health and economy of the population due to its sudden appearance and rapid spread. Brazil has not been immune to this problem, being one of the most affected countries in the region. In this sense, the study aims to present the reader with an overview of the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. The methodology used in this article consists of an exploratory secondary data collection, using data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health during the period from March 2020 to October 2021. The statistical analyzes were carried out with the help of Microsoft Excel software. As a result, it was identified that the number of covid-19 cases that corresponded to a higher number of deaths in the most populated regions of Brazil: Southeast, Northeast and South. The mortality rates per 100 thousand inhabitants were: Central-West (357.9), Southeast (326.4), South (318.6), North (254) and Northeast (206.7). The states of the Brazilian Federation with the highest numbers of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants reported were: Rio de Janeiro (395), Mato Grosso (393), Federal District (360), Rondônia (370). Finally, the number of cases and deaths from Covid-19 shows a considerable decrease in the last months of the study (July, August, September and October 2021).
