Abstract

This is about a theoretical study on the thought of the human scientist B. Latour and his critic to the modern point of view on religions. We seek to discuss the symmetry concept related to the study of religious experiences; the subject being, specifically, the doctrine of “Santo Daime”, Brazilian religion which uses a psychoactive tea in its rituals. We relate Latour to the research on alternate states of conscience by the psychiatrist S. Grof. The search for a symmetrical look on this religion’s study means to find new ways on realizing researches regarding Social Psychology, where we develop an essay on the psychosocial aspects of the doctrine.

Ricardo Vieiralves-Castro, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Psicólogo e Doutor em Comunicação e Cultura pela UFRJ. Professor Adjunto do Instituto de Psicologia e membro do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia Social da UERJ. É autor de vários artigos sobre as estruturas sociais brasileiras e suas relações e circulações de poder. Foi diretor do Museu da República e atualmente é Reitor da UERJ.

Maria Clara Rebel Araújo, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Possui graduação em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2002) e mestrado em Mestrado em Psicologia Social e Práticas Culturais - Pós-Graduação em Psicologia Social- UERJ (2005). Atualmente presta atendimento psicológico no Centro Paroquial D. Hélder Câmara e exerce atividade docente - Universidade Estácio de Sá. Realiza doutorado em Psicologia Social na UERJ (início em 2006).Tem experiência na área de Psicologia, com ênfase em Psicologia Social, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: psicologia social, religião, antropologia e psicologia, práticas sociais e plantas sagradas.
