Abstract

This is a report of experience from a volunteer work done with children from three to seven years of age, with theater workshops. These activities had, initially, the purpose of their socialization. They were invited to participate in games, dramatizations, shared readings and musical activities. The teachers noted improvement in their behavior and concentration, enhancing  their learning, especially for reading. Based on the theory of Vygotsky, we believe that the theater can facilitate socializing and other learning if mediated by the adult who acts as "scaffolding'', supporting them until they are able to perform the actions by themselves with efficiency.
