The girl mother: incest and maternity
Keywords:
incest, sexual abuse, pregnancy in adolescence, sexual violenceAbstract
This article presents a case study of a fifteen-year-old teenager girl, a victim of incest perpetrated by her stepfather, who became pregnant and gave birth to a child. Our main purpose is to discuss the teenager´s familiar reorganization, the girl’s and her family´s silence in relation to the sexual abuse. The Center of Social Assistance (CRAS) in a low-income suburb was the environment of research. The method was the participant observation. From the data obtained we identified four indicators of the adolescent´s vulnerability: her relation to the violence suffered, her relationship with her family, her relationship with her daughter, and her relationship with school. In this case, silence, isolation and the migration to another city were options for the family’s self protection. The study of pregnancy in this circunstance requires a particular understanding on pregnant adolescents in general.Downloads
