Abstract

This article seeks to (re)think and question the concept of “class”, its (dis)powers, its (dis)places, its implications and ways of being. What is a class? What can it be? What makes a class a class? These and many other questions are raised, based on reflections from an experience lived in a public school located in the rural area of the small district of Toca (Boyacá, Colombia). This “class” experience displaced the authors, not only in terms of space, but also in terms of time and dimensions. Khrónos and Aión traveled with us, thinking about multiple temporal experiences. Thinking about the essence of “school” and “class” together with the Greek etymology of the words, with the former corresponding to the meaning of free time and public space, and the latter to the idea of an open-air space, were some of the issues considered in the light of the theories of authors such as Kohan (2003, 2004, 2020), Rancière (2002), Freire (2015) and Barros (2003, 2015), among others. In a questioning writing, we tried to think about the concept of “class” in a philosophical education, in an attempt to find “backyards” in different ways of schooling.

Keywords: class, experience, skholé, displacement, backyard.
