Abstract

This article discusses the possibility of a theoretical-methodological approach to the contemporary history of the Guarani movement and its transnational character. From the first Guarani Continental Assembly, which took place in São Gabriel, in Rio Grande do Sul, on February 7, 2006, we considered an interdisciplinary bibliography and used the final document written after this event as a source, for the study of indigenous protagonism in construction of a possible regionalism of the peoples in South America. Our hypothesis is to observe the protagonism of the Guarani peoples in determined conditions as a historical subject and actor of international relations in that region. The final considerations of this work point to the potential contributions of Latin American and Caribbean thought to the discussion on this question.
