Abstract

This work aimed to analyze the alternative conceptions of basic
education students regarding bacteria and its relation with human health. The
research was developed with 30 students of the 7th year of elementary education of
the institution Master College and Course, Natal, RN. A questionnaire containing
open questions and drawing designs was used as a data collection tool. The data
obtained in the research show that although most of the students present knowledge
considered to be in agreement with what is scientifically acceptable about the forms
and structures of Bacteria, they are not able to relate them to human health, such as
differentiating the diseases caused by the bacteria of those caused by other
microorganisms. In view of this, it is hoped that this work will serve as a starting
point for proposing new strategies to teach microbiology in basic education in a more
contextualized and meaningful way
