This article addresses topics of great relevance in the quest for the eradication of illiteracy in Brazil and presents an analysis of the implementation of the Youth and Adult Literacy Project “Yes, I can”, promoted by the Landless Rural Workers and Workers Movement – MST, in the Northeast region of Brazil. To this end, we seek to situate the reality of illiteracy in Brazil and understand how the Cuban Yo method works, sí puedo that inspired the MST Project. With more than 2,000 public schools created and more than 200,000 literate people, the MST demonstrates the feasibility of overcoming inequalities in access to education in Brazil and affirms the possibilities of using a Project that has proved extremely effective in the literacy process of adults.
