Abstract

The institutionalization of Vocational Education in Brazil was dialectically related to the socio-historical determinants that helped shape the capitalist state in the country. The main objective of this article was to investigate the presence or absence of aesthetic-artistic knowledge in the organization of Vocational Education in colonial and imperial Brazil. The main conclusion is that the hegemonic history of the vocational training of Brazilian workers, throughout the period studied, was based on the development of knowledge related to craftsmanship.
