Abstract

This essay presents reflections on how memory helps to construct historical-social relations and the singular identity of the quilombola subject transmitted through Orí, which, together with the body, operates as a territory for the preservation and strengthening of black ancestry. We begin by observing black materiality itself – the body – which has currently fulfilled the function of supporting Afro-Brazilian memories of a common past. Thus, we can assume that, in addition to the body being the quilombo itself, it is the symbolic place for the construction of group cohesion, and, so to speak, it is the very memory, identity, territory and resistance.

Géssica Maria Silva São José, UESB - State University of Southwest Bahia

Géssica Maria Silva São José, born in Rio de Contas Bahia, born on January 12, 1995 (29 years old) is a historian, graduated from the State University of Southwest Bahia – UESB (2021). Géssica is currently a master's student in Memory: Language and Society also at UESB. Social activist, black, feminist, since graduation her research has been focused on black feminism and counter-hegemonic education in Brazil. Studying Psychopedagogy at Faculdade Sudoeste (FASU) Vitoria Da Conquista-BA. University extension in Feminist Training Course State University of Southwest Bahia, UESB, Vitoria da Conquista.
