Abstract

This article analyzes the extended schooling attained by young people from working classes in the 2000s/2010s and its effects. We discuss the expansion of access to higher education, which has generated an expectation of upward social mobility among these young people, as well as the difficulties they have been facing in achieving qualified insertion into the job market. Based on the trajectories of a domestic worker and her daughter, we seek to address work and educational opportunities that these women from different generations accessed in specific social contexts in Brazil.

Keywords: work; youth; higher education; trajectory.
